“The key is to not resist or rebel against emotions or to try to get around them by devising tricks; but to accept them directly, as they are.”—Takahisa Kora
Our emotions have a profound impact on us. With all emotions two major body systems come into play. They are the autonomic nervous system and the hormonal system. Emotional self-awareness and self-regulation is a key to balance and wellness of all of our bodies-physical, spiritual, psychological and mental.
For example, when you experience a challenging emotion such as anger, anxiety, fear, sadness, hopelessness or helplessness you exist on the side of your emotional landscape that creates stress and depletion. Conversely, when you experience an emotion such as gratitude, appreciation, joy, elation, peace, or hopefulness your emotional landscape is one of healing, non-stress and renewal. If I were to ask you where you would like to spend most of your time-you would probably say the renewal or healing side of your landscape.
- How aware are you of your emotions?
- How much time to you spend on the renewal side versus the depletion side?
These questions are important and do not impose judgment but simply an awareness of your physiological default from an emotional perspective. If your default is to the depletion side or the renewal side you have gain a keen awareness to navigating your life and have the key to optimal self-care and the opportunity to create the life you want.
All of us spend time on the depletion side because life has its challenges. It’s just the way life is. If I were tell you have the opportunity to shift from the depletion to the renewal side with some very simple tools, you most likely like to embark on that journey. The key to this is activating the intelligence of your heart and awakening the healing power within us all. By self-regulating our emotions, we can build resilience in our lives, providing us with the opportunity to manage our energy efficiently and subsequently producing well-being. HeartMath® provides simple but deceptively powerful tools to accomplish this.
